No pressure. No forms. No clinical language.

How joining
coucou. works.

If you've found us, something brought you here. Maybe you're exhausted from holding it all alone, or tired of waiting for support that never quite arrives. This page is just a plain-English walk-through of what happens next — so there are no surprises and nothing to fear.

You don't have to explain yourself to get started.

coucou. is not a clinical service. There is no referral, no assessment, no waiting room that smells of coffee and anxiety. It is a community — built by and for people who are navigating life after trauma. You join at your own pace, share as much or as little as you choose, and find your feet in a space that already understands something of where you've been.

The joining journey

From curious to comfortable,
one small step at a time.

1

Join the waiting list.

We're currently in our early stages, which means we're growing gently and intentionally. The waiting list is your way of saying "I'm interested" — nothing more. No lengthy forms, no medical history, no proof of anything. Just your name and email address so we can reach you when we open the doors.

Why a waiting list? Because we want to get this right — for you and for everyone else in the community. We'd rather grow thoughtfully than rush something that people are trusting with difficult parts of their lives.

2

Receive your welcome.

When a place opens up for you, we'll send a warm, human email — not a generic blast — with everything you need to set up your account. The onboarding is straightforward and unhurried. You'll choose a username (real name entirely optional), set a few preferences about how you'd like to engage, and read through our community guidelines at your own pace.

The guidelines aren't a list of rules designed to catch you out. They're a shared commitment to keeping the space safe — for you and everyone around you.

3

Look around before you say anything.

You don't have to post the moment you arrive. A lot of people spend their first few days — or even weeks — just reading. Seeing how conversations unfold. Getting a feel for the tone. Noticing which threads feel relevant. That's completely valid and entirely expected. There is no pressure to perform being okay, or to perform struggling, or to perform anything at all.

coucou. has different areas for different kinds of conversation — lighter exchanges, deeper sharing, and topic-specific spaces. You find your corners gradually.

4

Share when it feels right.

When you're ready, you can start a thread, respond to someone else, or just leave a small acknowledgement that you've read and felt something. There are no word counts to meet. A single honest sentence is worth more here than a polished paragraph that doesn't say anything real. People respond with care — because they're here for the same reason you are.

This is peer support — meaning the people responding are not clinicians. They're people who understand from experience, not from a textbook.

5

Explore the resources.

As well as the community spaces, you'll have access to a growing library of resources — guides, tools, and approaches that have been tested for real usefulness, not just clinical credibility. These aren't lists of hotlines or generic self-care tips. They're practical, honest pieces that members and our team have found genuinely helpful in navigating life after trauma.

Nothing is mandatory. You use what works for you, ignore what doesn't, and come back to things when the time is right.

6

Stay for as long as you need.

Some people dip in and out during difficult periods. Others find the community becomes a consistent thread in their life — somewhere to check in, something that grounds them. There is no right way to use coucou. You can be an active voice, a quiet reader, or somewhere in between, and all of it is welcome. You can also take breaks. Step away for weeks. Come back. The space holds.

If you ever decide to leave, that's straightforward too — no guilt, no friction, no "are you sure?" emails designed to make you stay.

Let's be clear

What coucou. is.
What it isn't.

We say this plainly because the people who come here deserve honesty, not marketing language.

coucou. is

  • ✓  A peer-led online community
  • ✓  A space for people who are struggling but not in crisis
  • ✓  A place to talk openly, without clinical filters
  • ✓  A library of tested, honest resources
  • ✓  Somewhere to be heard by people who understand
  • ✓  A place to move through at your own pace

coucou. is not

  • ✗  A crisis service or emergency line
  • ✗  A replacement for therapy or clinical care
  • ✗  Staffed by therapists or mental health professionals
  • ✗  A place that diagnoses or gives medical advice
  • ✗  Monitored 24/7 for risk
  • ✗  A substitute for professional support when you need it

If you are in crisis right now, please contact Samaritans on 116 123 (free, 24/7) or your local emergency services. coucou. will still be here when you're ready.

Things people wonder before joining

Honest answers
to honest concerns.

"What if I don't know what to say?"

You don't have to say anything at first. Many members spend time reading before they post. When you do share, you don't need polished words — something true and unfinished is perfectly welcome here.

"What if my experience feels too small, or too much?"

Trauma doesn't come with a grading system. If something has affected your life, it counts. coucou. is not a competition in suffering, and no one here is going to compare your experience against someone else's to decide if you belong.

"Is it actually private?"

Yes. You choose your username and you are not required to share your real name, location, or any identifying information. You can read our full Privacy Policy and Terms of Use before joining — we'd encourage it.

"What if I encounter something upsetting?"

The community has clear guidelines around content — there are things we don't allow, and ways to flag content that feels harmful. The platform has moderation in place, and members are encouraged to look after themselves and each other. You can also mute topics or threads that feel too close at a given moment.

"Does it cost anything?"

Joining the waiting list is free. As we develop coucou., access to the core community will remain affordable — we are deeply conscious that financial pressure is often part of the picture for people who are struggling. We will always be transparent about any costs before you commit to anything.

"I spent two weeks just reading other people's threads before I wrote a word. When I finally did, someone replied within an hour. Just — I hear you. That was enough for that day."

— coucou. early community member

What if things get harder while I'm here?

Struggling isn't linear. Sometimes people come to coucou. in a difficult period and things stay difficult. We take that seriously. The community guidelines include clear guidance for situations where someone appears to be in acute distress, and we will always signpost professional and crisis support when it's needed — without judgment and without making anyone feel like a burden.

coucou. also maintains an up-to-date resource page with UK crisis contacts, so that even if the community isn't the right answer in a moment, you're never left without somewhere to turn.

Ready when you are

Put your name down.
No pressure, no rush.

Joining the waiting list takes about thirty seconds. It doesn't commit you to anything. It just means you'll hear from us when we open — and you'll have had time to decide whether coucou. feels right for where you are.

No spam. No selling your data. Just a note when the doors open.
